Evaporative Coolers

Citycools evaporative coolers are portable, standalone machines that cool areas without the need for exhaust ducting. They give very effective cooling in well-ventilated areas.

Evaporative coolers do not have a compressor or refrigerant gas contained – you simply add cold water or ice to the cooler. Through the naturally occurring and environmentally friendly process of cooling through evaporation, the cooler provides colder air to the area in question.

Best located so they can draw in fresh air from outside, these coolers will provide a constant supply of fresh cool air to your home, office or any dry hot area.

Evaporative coolers provide a cooling effect by natural evaporation. Water or ice can be added to the evaporative cooler. The water contained in a tank and is then soaked up by an internal “pad”. An internal fan draws warm or outdoor air through the pad, thereby dropping the temperature of the air. The moisture laden air then cools the room in question, while the vapour produced gives the room occupants what is known as “the sea breeze effect”, cooling them down.

As evaporative coolers do not have a refrigeration circuit, they do not need exhaust ducts – this means they are truly portable.

  • Factories, manufacturing / process areas and industrial plants
  • Commercial kitchens
  • Dry cleaners and laundries
  • Retirement homes
  • Warehouses
  • Kennels and confinement farming
  • Offices
  • Retail
  • Healthcare areas.
  • They are environmentally-friendly cooling units.
  • No requirement for warm air exhaust ducting or condenser outside
  • Bring in fresh air, creating a healthier environment and improving the indoor air quality.
  • The internal pad acts as an extra air filter. It is will remove a variety of air contaminants.
  • Increase the relative humidity in the area in question which will eliminate dry air.
  • Evaporative air conditioners do not have a compressor or a condenser, therefore they use less energy than portable air conditioning units. Can be 50% less expensive energy cost than that of refrigeration portable air conditioning units.
  • No refrigerant gas
  • No installation charges. Evaporative are very easy to set up, use and maintain.
  • Evaporative coolers are not able to produce the low temperatures as those produced by refrigerated air conditioning systems.
  • Evaporative coolers add moisture to the air which can lead to high humidity in some
  • Evaporative coolers add humidity to the air and are therefore not suitable for computer, IT or server room applications.

For best performance of an evaporative cooler, position the unit in a location that will generate a “flow through” air effect. The greatest cooling effect will be felt by occupants, if the evaporative cooler is located in front of or beside a vent or open window or door, with the chilled air directed to the room.

It is also beneficial to have a door or window partly opened on the far side of the room to create the flow through effect.

Use cold water or ice to have the extra chilled effect.
